Financial Times Group Rewarding a Mass Murderer

Council of Indian Muslims— CIM (UK) has accused fdi magazine, a Financial Times group publication, of  being insensitive to the victims of anti-Muslim riots in the western Indian state of Gujarat in 2002 and encouraging Hindu extremism in India.

The fdi magazine has chosen the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi as its Asian Personality of the Year (2009).

In a statement issued today, CIM’s Chairman Mr Mohammad Munaf Zeena said, “Either the selectors are ignorant or are utterly insensitive to the sufferings of the victims of Narendra Modi’s human rights crimes that have been testified and confirmed by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, a leaked report by the British High Commission in India and world media. We are just aghast at the audacity of his selectors and are amazed at their ignorance of his so called economic development in the state. They are simply honouring and rewarding a mass murderer and a fascist. ”

Zeena further said, “Modi’s crimes are no secret and experts on Indian economy have rejected his so called economic programmes as a failure and sheer propaganda with no significant improvement in the lives of majority of Gujaratis.

“We urge the FT group to immediately reverse their decision, show some respect to the souls of those killed by Modi’s fascist administration, to the sufferings of thousands who are still waiting for justice to be done and save their prestige.”
